Advocacy call to action
By Diane Greiwe
On April 3, the State Senate passed the final bills of the New York state budget. The 2009-10 fiscal year budget totals $131.8 billion, $10.7 billion more than originally proposed by Gov. David A. Paterson.
We continue our Think Binghamton advocacy efforts on two fronts as the legislation phase of the budget process begins. First, we continue to meet with legislators face-to-face to emphasize the critical role Binghamton University plays in the state's economic recovery. See the latest videos from Binghamton University's "Advocacy Day" in Albany. Second, we continue coordinating e-mail and letter-writing campaigns to policy makers through the Think Binghamton website. Binghamton parents, students and alumni were our most effective advocates in the first phase of the letter-writing campaign, sending more than 27,000 messages to legislators around the state.
We still need your support. Please visit the Think Binghamton website for updates on the budget process, and continue to emphasize to your elected officials the importance of Binghamton University to the future vitality of the state.
