Beloved trauma surgeon gave his life in Iraq
The largest cathedral in Philadelphia was packed on Jan. 5, with people paying tribute to John P. Pryor ’88, MD, who had died of wounds Christmas morning in Mosul, Iraq, while serving his second tour of duty as a combat medic for the U.S. Army Reserve.
Former alumni director dies
Charles “Chuck” Dickson, 70, died of lung cancer at his home in Trumansburg, N.Y. on Jan. 15. After retiring from a successful career with NYSEG, where he rose to the position of vice president and general manager, Dickson joined the staff at Binghamton University in 1995 as director of alumni affairs. He served in that position until his retirement in October 2002.
University facing budget reductions
Binghamton University currently faces the most serious budget reductions that have been proposed in decades. Although higher education must do its share to help address the state’s fiscal crisis, cuts to SUNY have been proportionately greater than other state agencies. Further budget reductions will significantly affect the University's ability to deliver the courses and services that our students need.
