JAKE SLADISH '94 A native of nearby Owego, N.Y., Jake Sladish played golf at Binghamton from 1991-94. He earned his bachelor's degree in accounting in 1994, and received his master's degree in business administration from the University in 1997. Along with his brother, Chris, Jake immediately transformed a young golf program into a national contender after transferring back home. He promptly led Binghamton to three consecutive NCAA Championship appearances - the first two resulting in top-7 national finishes. In 1991-92, Sladish fired a 3-under-par 67 at the prestigious Yale Invitational, finishing third among 120 golfers. He went on to earn three medalist honors before capping the spring with a ninth place showing at the NCAA Championship. In back-to-back NCAA rounds, Sladish carded 72-71 to earn second team All-America honors. His stroke average of 75.5 was best on a BU team that finished seventh in the country, and he was honored as the best golfer in the five-state district. One year later, Sladish was instrumental in one of the most dominant sports seasons in school history. The team won eight invitationals, posted a 200-7 overall record, earned a national ranking as high as number two, and finished fourth at the NCAA Championship. In his final year, Sladish maintained a 75.9 average, and led Binghamton back to the NCAA's once again. For the second time in three years, he was selected as the district's most outstanding golfer, earning All-America honors. During his tenure, Binghamton won 23 tournaments and posted a remarkable win percentage of 88%. He was named BU's "Athlete of the Year" in 1993. |
