Binghamton University baseball stifled in 7-0 loss to Albany
Bearcats limited to four hits in nine-inning defeat

VESTAL, N.Y. - Albany (19-28, 11-8 AE) struck for six runs in the first three innings and senior pitcher Mark Suchowiecki shut down Binghamton on four hits en route to a 7-0 victory over the Bearcats (25-21-1, 10-9 America East) Friday afternoon at Varsity Field. With the loss, Binghamton slipped from second place to fifth in a tight conference pack that is jockeying for top-four status in the final weekend of the regular season.

Suchowiecki scattered four singles and struck out eight, and his Albany teammates provided plenty of offensive spark with 10 hits - five of which were for extra bases. The Great Danes jumped on BU starter Scott Diamond (Guelph, Ontario) for two runs on three hits in the first inning, and added four more in the third, thanks to two doubles and five hits. Diamond missed a chance to set the school record (Division I) for wins in a season. He fell to 5-6 this spring.

There was just one run over the span of the final six innings - a solo home run from senior designated hitter Nate Olson in the sixth inning.

Sophomore reliever Ron Miller (Owego, N.Y.) was the lone bright spot for BU. Miller allowed just one hit over the final three innings.

The two teams will continue their four-game set with a Saturday doubleheader beginning at noon.

NOTES
Vermont has clinched the regular season America East title and No. 1 seed and host for the tournament next weekend. Albany (11-8), Maine (11-9), Stony Brook (9-8) and BU (10-9) are battling for the final three spots... The game marked the third time in the last four conference series' that the Bearcats have been blanked in game 1. Binghamton has participated in 14 shutouts this season. The Bearcats have posted nine shutouts, tied for most in the nation with Virginia. Binghamton has been shut out five times.
