Immediate Release: April 11, 2006 Game 1 Box In game two, junior right fielder Jeff Monaco (Binghamton, N.Y.) laced a two-run single through the left side, breaking a 1-1 deadlock in the second extra inning and giving BU a 3-1 lead. Senior reliever Nick Bogdanoff (San Mateo, Calif.) earned the win with 3 2/3 innings of one-hit relief. Binghamton was held to five hits - two by freshman third baseman Kyle Klee (Rochester, N.Y.). Sophomore Gio Yannuzzi (Binghamton, N.Y.) didn't allow an earned run in 5 1/3 innings of work. He struck out three and scattered seven hits. In the opener, BU was on the verge of a win before St. Bonaventure struck for three runs on three consecutive hits in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Bonnies were aided by back-to-back BU infielding errors. Junior first baseman Brendon Hitchcock (Laceyville, Pa.) belted a three-run home run in the fourth inning to erase a 4-3 lead and give the Bearcats a 6-4 margin. Junior shortstop Justin Smucker (Bird-in-Hand, Pa.) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Freshman left fielder Ken Jacobi (Milford, Conn.) hit his first collegiate home run - a solo shot in the second inning - and went 2-for-3. Binghamton returns to conference play with a four-game set against UMBC. The first game is at 3 p.m. on Thursday. |
