Immediate Release: March 25, 2006 Game 1 Box In game two, sophomore Zach Groh (Reading, Pa.) fired a one-hit shutout for his first win of the season. Groh allowed only a bloop single to center field with one out in the sixth inning. He went the full seven innings, struck out six and walked one, lowering his earned run average to 1.69 in three starts this spring. Offensively, meanwhile, BU broke open a tight 1-0 game with six decisive runs in the top of the seventh. The big blow in the five-hit frame was a bases-clearing double by sophomore third baseman Ryan James (Wading River, N.Y.). The Bearcats then strung together four consecutive hits. In the opener, BU scored a run in the second inning and three more in the fifth inning to build a 4-0 lead. Lehigh plated two runs in the sixth inning but sophomore pitcher Scott Diamond (Guelph, Ontario) shut the door to register his third win in four starts this spring. Diamond scattered six hits over seven innings, struck out two and walked none. Junior right fielder Jeff Monaco (Binghamton, N.Y.) delivered a two-out, two-run single down the right field line in the fifth inning. Binghamton got one hit apiece from eight hitters in the lineup. The
teams are scheduled to play another doubleheader Sunday beginning
at noon. |
