Immediate Release: April 25, 2006 Box Score In the first frame, Le Moyne combined three hits with two walks and a hit batter to plate five runs and quickly erase a 1-0 BU lead. The Bearcats scored single runs in the second and third innings to pull within 5-3, but the Dolphins scored twice in the fifth inning to regain their four-run margin. Each team scored three runs in its half of the seventh inning. Binghamton utilized a season-high eight pitchers in the nine-inning contest - a designed strategy for the midweek nonconference game. Le Moyne used five pitchers. Junior second baseman Matt Simek (Vestal, N.Y.) went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run in the seventh inning. Junior shortstop Justin Smucker (Bird-in-Hand, Pa.) was the only other BU player with more than one hit. He hit a home run to lead off the game and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Junior designated hitter Jeff Wertepny (Des Plaines, Ill.) hit a solo home run in the second inning and freshman catcher Michael Quinn (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) belted his first collegiate home run in the third inning. The Bearcats return home to begin a key four-game set against America East-leading Maine this weekend. The first game is Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. |
