Immediate Release: October 16, 2004 APALACHIN, N.Y.-- Sophomore Aaron Ungvarsky (Wilmington, Mass.) shot a team-best 2-over 74 and host Binghamton came in with a 305 to trail just University of Ottawa (304) in the 11-team NBT Bank Collegiate Classic, played Saturday at The Links at Hiawatha Landing. Colgate (307), Duquesne (316) and Cornell (316) round out the top five. The Bearcats, who have won two of their last three tournaments, have three players sitting among the top-10 after round one. Ungvarsky is tied for fourth after shooting 39-35 on the 7104-yard layout. He birdied three holes on the back side (Nos. 12, 15, 18) to put up his fourth straight sub-75 round. Junior Kevin Crawford (Lockport, N.Y.) shot 39-37=76 to hold down a share of eighth place, and classmate Brad Moulton (Orangeville, Ontario) shot 37-40=77 to tie for 10th in the field of 60. Freshman Zach Vinal (Syracuse, N.Y.) and sophomore Jeff Wolniewicz (West Seneca, N.Y.) carded rounds of 78 and 79 respectively. "The guys played very well today considering the conditions we dealt with," head coach Nick Lasky said. "It was cold with wind and rain - it was a battle from the start. I'm sure the guys want to win their own tournament so they will come out firing tomorrow," Lasky said. Colgate's Richard Hayes shot 36-35=71 to take sole possession of first place. Andy Whalen of St. Bonaventure and Ottawa's Andrew Jensen each shot 73. Mike Byhland of Seton Hall is tied with Ungvarsky for fourth. The Bearcats will tee off in Sunday's final pairings with Ottawa and Colgate, beginning at 11:24 a.m. |
