Binghamton golf 8th halfway through New England Championship
Bearcats shoot 317, stand 16 strokes behind leader Rhode Island

First Round Scores

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Binghamton shot an opening-round 317 to stand in eighth place midway through the New England Championship, hosted by Rhode Island at the par-72, 6522-yard Triggs Golf Course. The host Rams lead the way after scoring a 301. Connecticut and Yale are tied for second at 308, followed by Brown (310) and Central Connecticut (312) to round out the top five.

Freshman Zach Vinal (Syracuse, N.Y.) is in a three-way tie for sixth place among 70 golfers after carding a 3-over-par 75. Junior Casey Wheet (Elmira, N.Y.) shot a 78, sophomore Jeff Wolniewicz (West Seneca, N.Y.) posted an 80, classmate Aaron Ungvarsky (Wilmington, Mass.) came in at 84, and junior Kevin Crawford (Lockport, N.Y.) had the kick-out score of 87.

The final round begins Sunday at 9:20 a.m.
