Immediate Release: February 19, 2005 The Bearcats trailed 50-41 with 4:35 remaining before embarking on a 9-0 run tat knotted the score at 50-50, with 1:09 left. But the Seawolves responded with a driving layup on their next posession, and after a BU miss, Stony Brook began a string of triops to the free throw line, where it made 5-of-6 in the final 15 seconds to seal the win. "We didn't come out very strong today, head coach Al Walker said. "It was a well played second half, but they did a nice job making their free throws down the stretch." Sophomore guard Troy Hailey (Hyattsbille, Md.) and junior backcourt mate Andre Heard (Oklahoma City, Okla.) led the late charge with 15 combined points in the final 5:33. Hailey, who scored a game-high 17 points, scored BU's final eight points, while Heard netted 14 of his 16 points after intermission. Junior forward Sebastian Hermenier (Rockville, Md.) chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds The first half was a shooting disaster for the Bearcats, who missed 15 of their first 20 shots and shot just 25% for the period (7-of-28). Stony Brook closed the half on a 9-2 run to post a 26-18 intermission margin. Stony Brook was led by junior guard Bobby Santiago, who tallied 16 points. Santiago 4-of-4 free throws in the game's final 15 seconds to close out the win. Binghamton next plays at Hartford Thursday night before concluding the regular season with a home contest against Boston University on Sunday. |
