Immediate Release: March 16, 2005 Contact: Thomas Moore II (sports@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-2956 12th-ranked Cornell stops men's lacrosse 12-5 Box Score ITHACA, N.Y.-- Binghamton (0-4) fell to its third nationally ranked opponent this season with its 12-5 loss to No. 12 Cornell (2-1), Wednesday afternoon at Schoellkopf field. The Big Red won 15 of the 21 faceoffs and had 41 of the 63 ground balls during the game. The Big Red scored the game's first two goals in the first nine minutes of the game. Sophomore Matt McNamara (Oswego, N.Y.) and junior Phil Cavallo (Cedarhurst, N.Y.) each answered back with a goal of their own to tie the game at two. Cornell followed with a pair of goals, at 1:23 left in the first quarter and with 7:03 left in the second quarter. Sophomore Nate Kerstein (Rochester, N.Y.) added a goal at the 3:57 mark, the Big Red followed with a goal of their own eight seconds later to have the 5-3 advantage at halftime. In the third quarter down 6-3, junior Matt DeCirce (Binghamton, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the season. With 1:19 left in the same quarter sophomore Jeff Santucci (Cicero, N.Y.) scored the final Bearcat goal of the game. The Big Red scored four unanswered goals to end the game. Junior goalie Kevin McKeown (Brewster, N.Y.) made six saves while allowing 10 goals during his 53:37 minutes in front of the net, freshman Jeff Walker (Rochester, N.Y.) made his collegiate debut allowing two goals in 6:23 minutes. The Bearcats will next visit Hofstra, the two teams are set to take the field on Monday at 6 p.m. |
