Hartford
pulls away from men's lacrosse team 13-7
BINGHAMTON,
N.Y.--Junior midfielder Raweras Mitchell, senior attacker Phil
Lavoie and freshman midfielder Garett Kilkot each netted three
goals, leading Hartford (8-5, 4-0 AE) to a 13-7 win over Binghamton
(3-7, 1-4 AE) in an America East Conference men's lacrosse game
on Saturday afternoon. The visiting Hawks broke open a 5-5, third
quarter tie with five consecutive goals to take the lead for
good.
Hartford took a 2-0 lead into the second quarter before the Bearcats
errupted for three goals in a span of 5:02 in the second quarter.
Freshman attacker Phil Cavallo (Cedarhurst, N.Y./ Lawrence),
who finished the game with a team-high three goals, scored twice
during that span. The other goal was scored by freshman midfielder
Aaron LaFlair (Watertown, N.Y./ General Brown. The Hawks,
however, rebounded with two goals in the final two minutes to
take a 4-3 lead at the break.
Binghamton wasted little time in tying the game up at 4-4 as
junior defender Chris Healy (Freeport, N.Y.) sprinted
the length of the field and scored an unassisted goal with just
1:08 elapsed in the third quarter. After Kikot put Hartford ahead
5-4 five minutes into the quarter, senior defender Tyler Moore
knotted the game up at 5-5 just 54 seconds later.
In the ensuing eight minutes, the visiting Hawks went on their
five-goal rampage. Mitchell scored twice and Kikot scored on
goal during that span. The Bearcats would get a third goal from
Cavallo as well as a goal from Brian Chaapel (Penn Yan, N.Y./
Penn Yan Academy) but would get no closer than five goals
for the rest of the game.
Binghamton travels to Siena on Thursday for a 4 p.m. game while
Hartford heads to Sacred Heart for a 3:30 p.m. game on Tuesday.
