Men's Lacrosse falls to No. 20 Hobart 10-7

GENEVA, N.Y.-- No. 20 Hobart (2-0) won 16 of the 19 faceoffs to defeat Binghamton (0-2) 10-7 at McCooey Field. The Bearcats were behind 9-4 entering the fourth quarter, where they scored three unanswered goals in an attempt of a comeback, but the Statesmen defense spoiled any chance of a comeback.

Juniors Phil Cavallo (Cedarhurst, N.Y.) and Sean Meluney (Cape Henlopen, Del.) led the Bearcats with two goals each. Sophomore Matt McNamara (Oswego, N.Y.) contributed with his first goal and assist of the season. Sophomore Rob Williams (Fulton, N.Y) and junior Scott Mitchell (Smithtown, N.Y.) also netted their first goals of the season. Junior Joe Conner (Ijamsville, Md.) and freshman Stephen Smith (Canandaigua, N.Y.) handed out one assist apiece.

Junior goalie Kevin McKeown (Brewster, N.Y.) made a career-high 19 saves, this is the 17th time in his career where he has had double figure saves. Hobart scooped 42 ground balls, while Binghamton had 32. The Bearcats were 0-8 in extra-man opportunities, while the Statesmen were 1-7.

Binghamton will now head to Drexel, who the Bearcats beat 8-2 last season. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
