In its first game against a nationally-ranked opponent this season, Binghamton (1-2) was defeated on the road by No. 19 Hofstra (1-1), 15-5 in Long Island on Tuesday night. The host Pride jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes of the game and never looked back. "After the first 10 minutes of the first quarter, we settled down and did a great job defensively for the rest of the game," head coach Ed Stephenson said. "Hofstra came out with a lot of firepower and we need to handle the pressure offensively a lot better. When we can do that, we will be a better team." Five different Bearcats netted a goal against Hofstra, including freshman attacker Brian Morgan (Littleton, Colo./ Heritage), freshman attacker Phil Cavallo (Cedarhurst, N.Y./ Lawrence), freshman attacker Joe Vavala (Dewey Beach, Del./ Cape Henlopen), freshman attacker Scott Mitchell (Smithtown, N.Y./ Hauppauge) and freshman midfielder Charlie Cook (Liverpool, N.Y./ Liverpool). In goal, freshman Kevin McKeown (Brewster, N.Y./ Brewster) recorded 15 saves. The Bearcats head to Stony Brook next Wednesday for their conference opener at 3 p.m.
