Immediate Release: April 13, 2005 Contact: Thomas Moore II (sports@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-2956 UMBC holds off Binghamton men's lacrosse 10-4 Box Score BALTIMORE, Md.--Host UMBC (5-5, 4-0 AE) used an 8-1 halftime lead to defeat Binghamton (1-8, 1-2 AE) in a conference game Wednesday afternoon. UMBC clinched a berth in the four-team America East Tournament with its win over the Bearcats, Albany also clinched a spot today with their win over Vermont. UMBC held an 8-1 lead at the half, sophomore Matt McNamara (Oswego, N.Y.) had the only Bearcat first half goal. In the third quarter junior Brian Chaapel (Penn Yan, N.Y.) scored on an assist by sophomore Rob Williams (Fulton, N.Y.) to cut the lead to 8-2. UMBC only scored one more goal in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter McNamara and junior Phil Cavallo (Cedarhurts, N.Y.) each scored unassisted goals, while the Retrievers only managed to net a single goal. Junior goalie Kevin McKeown (Brewster, N.Y.) made 6 saves. UMBC had 36 ground balls, while the Bearcats had 21. The Retrievers won 15 of the 18 faceoffs. The Bearcats will host their final regular season home game against conference rival Hartford on Saturday at 2 p.m. |
