soccer shuts out Colgate 2-0 Box score Junior forward Stephen Bruce (Buckie, Scotland) and freshman midfielder Joey Neilson (Boothwyn, Pa./ Strath Haven) each netted a second-half goal, leading Binghamton (2-0) to a 2-0 win at Colgate (0-2-1) on Saturday night. With the win, the Bearcats start the season 2-0 for the first time since 1993. "This was a great win for us," head coach Paul Marco said. "We played hard and things really started going our way in the second half." Bruce scored his first goal of the season at the 66:18 mark off of a feed from sophomore midfielder Danilo (Sao Paulo, Brazil/ The Interlagos School). Exactly 14 minutes later, Neilson connected for his second goal in as many games. Freshman forward Dan Blank (Levittown, N.Y./ Division Avenue) assisted on the second goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Stefan Gonet (Refrewshire, Scotland/ Trinity) recorded his second consecutive shutout, making two saves during the game. The Red Raiders outshot Binghamton 5-4 in the first half but the Bearcats turned the tables in the second half, outshooting the host school 9-3. Up next, the Bearcats head home for a crucial game against Northeastern on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Huskies are the defending America East Conference champion. |
