Binghamton men's soccer holds off Hartwick 1-0

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Senior midfielder Ibrahim Yusuf (Spring Valley, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the year, leading Binghamton (2-4-3) to a 1-0 victory over Hartwick (3-4-1) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Saturday afternoon at West Gym Field. The Bearcats are now 2-1-2 in their last five games.

"Hartwick is one of the better teams we have played so we are pleased with getting the win," head coach Paul Marco said. "We are still a work in progress but we showed the competitive spirit today that we have lacked in past games."

Yusuf found the back of the net at the 59:11 mark following a pass from senior forward Peter Sgueglia (Schenectady, N.Y.), who threaded the ball through tight quarters in front of the goal mouth. Sgueglia now has a goal and three assists in his last five games.

In goal, redshirt freshman Jason Stenta (Binghamton, N.Y.) made a career-high six saves to record his second consecutive solo shutout. His biggest save came on a header by John Paul Boyle from close range with 3:20 remaining in the second half.

Binghamton heads to Syracuse on Wednesday at 7 p.m for its final non-conference game of the season.
