Men's
and women's soccer teams earn NSCAA Team Academic Award VESTAL, N.Y.--The Binghamton men's and women's soccer team, which have both had successful seasons on the field, have been honored for their work in the classroom with the NSCAA Team Academic Awards. To earn the award, a team must have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 during the previous academic year. Binghamton was one of only 48 schools in the nation to have both its men's and women's teams receive the honor. Of the 71 men's teams to have earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award, Binghamton had the 35th-highest cumulative GPA (3.14). The honor comes the same week that the Bearcats captured their first-ever America East Conference title and the accompanying bid to the NCAA Tournament. "This season, our guys have set a very high standard of excellence both on the field and in the classroom," head coach Paul Marco said. "We are very proud of all of their accomplishments." Binghamton also had one of 246 women's teams honored by the NSCAA, as the Bearcats posted a 3.04 GPA. This season, the women's team posted its 17th consecutive winning season and advanced to the ECAC Division I Tournament for the second time in three years. "We are very pleased to get this award," head coach Jeff Leightman said. "Our team shares the same goals and priorities that the university does when it comes to academics." |
