Immediate Release: Oct. 16, 2004Contact: Thomas Moore II (sports@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-2956 Binghamton men's soccer rolls over Stony Brook 4-0 Box score VESTAL, N.Y.--Freshman midfielder Adam Chavez (Endicott, N.Y.) and senior back Mike Austin (Oneonta, N.Y.) scored goals 18 seconds apart in the first half to help Binghamton (8-1-5, 2-1-2 AE) motor past Stony Brook (8-4-1 2-2-1 AE) 4-0 in an America East game on West Gym Field Saturday afternoon. Senior forward Charles Darkwah (Toronto, Ontario) began the scoring in the 16th minute with a header that sophomore midfielder Bryan Arnault (Clay, N.Y.) gave to him from the corner. Chavez scored his goal at 34:06 into the game off a wind-aided direct kick 55 yards away from the goal. After the kick off, the Bearcats quickly gained possession and Arnault crossed the ball again, this time to finding Austin 15 yards away from the goal, where he found the left corner of the goal to put the Bearcats up 3-0. "I thought the guys played fantastic today," head coach Paul Marco said. "The goalkeeper and the four backs played great. This was a terrific win for the team." In the second half the Bearcats scored their final goal at 60:56 by junior back Graham Munro (Inverness, Scotland). Stony Brook goalie, John Moschella blocked a shot and the ball trickled out to penalty box where Munro drilled the ball into right side of the net. This was the fifth shutout of the season for the Bearcats. The Seawolves had to play the last 32:49 seconds a man down due to Rob Fucci getting a red card. NOTE: Binghamton will next host UMBC on Wednesday at 3 p.m. |
