Binghamton signs two more high school soccer standouts

Vestal, N.Y. — The Binghamton men’s soccer team has received national letters of intent from Matt Nolan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Adam Masef (Merrick, N.Y.). Both of these players will join the squad this fall as freshmen.

Nolan, a 6-4 goalkeeper from South Side High School, was named both all-county and all-conference during his career. An outstanding athlete, he also was the county champion in the pentathlon as well as the silver medalist in the decathlon at the Empire State Games. In addition, Nolan also played for the Eastern New York Olympic Development (ODP) Team.

“Matt has what it takes to play on the Division I level,” said Binghamton assistant coach John Scott. “He has the potential to play his freshman season.”

Masef, a 5-9 attacking midfielder from Bellmore JFK High School, was also an all-county selection during his career. He played for the Eastern New York ODP Team for five years. In addition, he was on the Region I ODP Team (which extends from Virginia to Maine) one year.

“Adam is a skillful player who competes well under pressure,” said Scott. “He can cover a lot of ground on the field.”

With seven players signed this off-season, head coach Paul Marco continues to be pleased by the transformation of the squad.

“We are further along now than I thought we’d be,” he said. “Our returning players are working hard and having a great spring of training, and these new players will help us improve a lot. We are changing the face of our team.”
