Immediate Release: September 15, 2004 VESTAL, N.Y.--Binghamton men's tennis opened its dual match season with a 7-0 victory over visiting Ithaca (0-3) Wednesday afternoon on the West Gym Courts. The Bearcats (1-0) improved to 31-7 all-time against the Division III Bombers, dating back to 1948-49. Junior Brian O'Connor (New Rochelle, N.Y.) won twice to remain unbeaten in both singles (4-0) and doubles (4-0), and freshmen Alex Dobrin (Flushing, N.Y.) and Faisal Mohamed (Lynbrook, N.Y.) continued their strong play with straight set wins at No. 2 and 3 singles respectively. "The freshmen looked good and competed hard," head coach Michael Starke said. "Brian (O'Connor) and Faisal (Mohamed) also looked very good at No. 1 doubles. Brian has clearly improved his concentration skills, and is staying focussed all the time now." The Bearcats rested sophomore No. 1 Dan Hanegby and utilized junior No. 2 Richemn Mourad only for doubles. Binghamton will next head to Ithaca for the Cornell Invitational this Saturday and Sunday. "Cornell could perhaps be wakeup call and early season gut check," Starke said. "It's always interesting to see who will do what at that tournament." Binghamton 7, Ithaca 0 DOUBLES |
