Immediate Release: May 26, 2006 Contact: David O'Brian (dobrian@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-6478 Quiller advances to NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships with fourth-place finish in pole vault at East Regional Meet GREENSBORO, N.C.. -- Junior Rory Quiller (West Point, N.Y.) has become the first Binghamton track & field athlete to qualify for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships. He acheived the honor by virtue of his fourth-place finish in the pole vault (17-1) at the NCAA East Regional Championships on Friday at North Carolina A&T University. The top five finishers in each event advance to the NCAA Championships which will be held June 7-10 at Cal State-Sacramento. Quiller has now advanced to both the indoor and outdoor national meets during his illustrious career at Binghamton. He was 12th in the pole vault at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships. Two years ago, Quiller placed sixth at the NCAA Outdoor Regional Meet. Three other Binghamton athletes are in action this weekend at the East Regional Meet. Senior Hasani Hampden (Freeport, N.Y.) is running the men's 400 hurdles while fellow senior Adam Goldberg (New Rochelle, N.Y.) is entered in the men's high jump. On the women's side, senior Jamie Stitt (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) is competing in the pole vault. |
