Immediate Release: May 9, 2004 Contact: David O'Brian (dobrian@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-6478 Softball season ends with 7-2 loss to Stony Brook Box score VESTAL, N.Y.--- Sophomore shortstop Laura Bradford belted a grand slam and sophomore third baseman Haley Durham went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI, powering Stony Brook (29-31, 13-7 AE) to a 7-2 win over host Binghamton (17-23-2, 8-11-1 AE) in an America East Conference softball game on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Seawolves take two out of three games this weekend from the Bearcats. The game was the final contest of the season for Binghamton, who missed qualifying for the conference tournament. Sophomore shortstop Rose Barre (Watertown, N.Y./ General Brown) led off the bottom of the first inning with her sixth home run of the year, putting Binghamton ahead 1-0. Durham, however, struck back in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run blast over the center field fence, making the score 2-1. The decisive moment of the game, however, was in the top of the fifth inning, when Bradford belted her first career grand slam over the center field fence. Three batters later, Durham came through again, singling home a run to stretch the lead to 7-1. Binghamton got a run back in the bottom of the fifth inning when Barre had a RBI single. Sophomore pitcher Angela Andrews, however, held the Bearcats scoreless the rest of the way. Her record improves to 19-18 while senior pitcher Michelle Weeks (Bunnell, Fla./ Flagler Palm Coast) took the loss, dropping her record to 7-11. |
