Immediate Release: March 14, 2004 Contact: David O'Brian (dobrian@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-6478 Bearcats place third at UMBC Spring Classic; Barre named Most Outstanding Defensive Player In its first tournament of 2004, the Binghamton softball team went 5-1 and placed third at the UMBC Spring Classic this past weekend. The Bearcats swept all four games in pool play before losing 3-2 to the host school in the semifinals. Binghamton bounced back with a 10-3 win over St. Francis (Pa.) in the consolation game. Sophomore shortstop Rose Barre (Watertown, N.Y./ General Brown) went 9-for-22 with two home runs and nine RBI. She was named the Defensive Player of the tournament. Junior center fielder Jessica Dima (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 9-for-15 with four doubles and five RBI while while freshman Chrissy Semon (Clarks Summit, Pa./ Abington Heights) was 5-for-11 with a home runs and six RBI. On the mound, sophomore pitcher Katie Hansen (Westtown, N.Y./ Minisink Valley) and senior Michelle Weeks (Bunnell, Fla./ Flagler Palm Coast) each picked up two wins. In addition, sophomore Lauren Reis (Glenmount, N.Y./ Bethlehem) tossed a three-hit shutout in the Bearcats' other victory.
