Immediate Release: November 10, 2003 Contact: David Berman (berman@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-2956 Ashley Meffert named America East Rookie of the Week for second time this season America East Release Freshman setter Ashley Meffert (Louisville, Ky./Fern Creek) was named the America East Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on November 10. It is the second such honor of the season for Meffert, who ranks third in the conference with 11.22 assists per game. In a pair of matches last week, Meffert averaged 11.13 assists per game as the Bearcats were defeated in five games by New Hampshire before rebounding to sweep Maine. She dished out 53 assists against New Hampshire and handed out 36 more against Maine. Her season total of 1,142 assists already ranks as the fifth-highest season total in school history, and with three matches remaining, she could move up as high as second on that list. Meffert also showed off an excellent all-around offensive game last week. She had six kills and six blocks against New Hampshire and then served up four service aces and added four more blocks against Maine. For the week she totaled 20 digs, 10 blocks, eight kills and five service aces. She ranks third on the team this season in aces (0.32/gm.) and is fourth in blocks (0.48/gm.) and digs (2.17/gm.). |
