rallies for 3-2 win at Siena Bearcats sweep final three games to come back from 0-2 deficit |

Score LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- After losing the first two games by identical 30-27 scores, the Binghamton University Bearcats (8-17) rallied for a 3-2 win over the Siena Saints (7-17) in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon. The Bearcats won the match 27-30, 27-30, 32-30, 30-20, 15-11. "We really seized momentum after winning the third game," said BU head coach Glenn Kiriyama. "We beat them in the fourth game and then fought well in the fifth game to win the match." Sophomore Glorimar Ortega (Naranjito, Puerto Rico) had a match-high 18 kills on the afternoon, while making just three errors and attacking at a .405 clip. She added six assists, nine digs and five block assists. "Glorimar had an exceptional match today, and overall it was one of our better hitting matches in terms of our attack percentage," Kiriyama said. Also playing well for Binghamton was junior outside hitter Allison Beard (Elkland, Pa.), who had 12 kills with a .478 hitting percentage and four blocks. Sophomore middle hitter Jennifer Smith (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) added 12 kills to go along with 17 digs. Classmate Anne Crocus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) added to her team- and league-leading block total with seven total blocks (four solo), while senior setter Amanda Breitfeld (Allentown, Pa./Central Catholic) handed out a season-high 36 assists. Lauren Weber led Siena with 17 kills and 14 digs for the match. Kerrie McHugh had 54 assists and Jennifer Corkum tallied 14 kills and seven blocks. "Siena is a solid team," Kiriyama said. "This was a nice win for us and it will be good to bring this win into our next match." The Bearcats will take on New Hampshire at 7 p.m. Friday at East Gym. |
