| Bearcats split two matches at Illinois Chicago |

Box Score Chicago, Ill.--Sophomore setter Jennifer Smith had a team-high 17 kills against Buffalo and was named to the all-tournament team, highlighting a 1-1effort by the Binghamton volleyball team (1-5) on Saturday at the Illinois-Chicago Tournament. The Bearcats were defeated by the host school in three games (30-17, 30-20, 30-28) before defeating the Bulls (2-5) in five games (30-26, 30-27, 18-30, 27-30, 15-11). Smith's 17-kill performance just missed her career-high of 18 kills, which she recorded against Iona on Sept. 30, 2001. She also had seven digs and five total blocks. In addition to Smith, three other played reached double-figures in kills against Buffalo. Junior middle blocker Allison Beard had 14 kills, sophomore outside hitter Michele Heck had 12 kills and 19 digs, and sophomore middle blocker Anne Crocus posted 11 kills and eight total blocks. Junior defensive specialist Shannon Kelly posted a career-high 22 kills in the win over Buffalo. Her previous high of 17 was recorded against Army on Sept. 7, 2001. Earlier in the day against Illinois-Chicago (6-1), Smith led the Bearcats with a 10 kill, nine dig performance. Crocus added a team-high nine total blocks. Binghamton faces Syracuse (5-1) in its home-opener on Wednesday at 7 p.m. |
