volleyball falls to Weber State in five games

FULLERTON, Calif.- The Binghamton University volleyball team
dropped a five-game 31-33, 28-30, 30-27, 30-23, 15-8 decision
to Weber State in its tournament finale at the Four Points Classic
Saturday evening. The Bearcats concluded their final day of competition
with an 0-2 mark, finishing 0-3 overall on the weekend. Earlier
Saturday, the Bearcats fell in their first match of the day to
the College of Charleston 3-0 (30-16, 30-18, 30-24).
The Bearcats came out of the gate strong capturing two very competitive
games to open Saturday's nightcap. BU, however, struggled to
put away its Big Sky counterparts, as the Wildcats came charging
back to tie the match at two games apiece and then caught fire
in the decisive fifth game, hitting .292 to secure the come from
behind victory.
"It was a close match throughout. We fought hard, but just
couldn't get the breaks to go our way in the end," said
head coach Glenn Kiriyama. "I didn't think we played as
well as we could have this weekend, but hopefully we will continue
to learn and to improve as the season progresses."
Freshman
Caitlyn Anderson led Weber State with a match-high 22 kills and
hit .246. She also recorded 18 digs.
Once again the Bearcats' attack was led by senior Megan Hoag
(Brunswick, Ohio). Hoag led BU with a career-high 19 kills and
a match-best .325 hitting percentage. Junior Jacki Kane
(Centennial, Colo.) added 16 kills and three blocks. Fellow upperclassmen
Katie Robertson (Ancaster, Ontario) and Kathleen Schauer
(Littleton, Colo.) also hit in double-figures, with 11 kills
apiece.
Weber State improved to 4-5 on the season while Binghamton falls
to 1-6.
Binghamton returns to the East Coast next weekend where they
will compete in Cambridge, Mass. at the Harvard Invitational.
BU will take on the host Crimson on Friday and both Long Island
and Rutgers on Saturday afternoon. |
