WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Binghamton (4-3) lost a pair matches on day
one of the William and Mary Tournament, first falling to St.
John's (6-2) 3-0, then lost 3-1 against Liberty (2-4) on Friday
at William and Mary Hall.
Against St. John's, the Bearcats lost 25-30, 25-30, 25-30. Binghamton
was led by freshman libro Jaclyn Strader (Kettering, Ohio) with
a match-high 14 digs and junior setter Ashley Meffert (Louisville,
Ky.) who had a match-high 24 assists. Junior outside hitter Katie
Brody (Vestal, N.Y.) contributed 8 kills and 8 digs. Junior middle
blocker Megan Hoag (Brunswick, Ohio) added 8 kills and 5 digs.
Sophomore middle blocker Jacki Kane (Centennial, Colo.) led the
team with 4 blocks
In the second match against Liberty, Binghamton lost by scores
of 30-17, 28-30, 28-30, 31-33. Junior outside hitter Katie Robertson
(Ancaster, Ontario) led the way for Binghamton with career and
team-high 17 kills and a career-high 12 digs, Brody had a season
and team-high 19 digs, she also had 11 kills. Meffert contributed
with 49 assists and 10 digs, while Hoag had 9 kills, 8 digs and
4 blocks.
"We struggled in the middle today," head coach Glenn
Kiriyama said. "We could have passed a little better which
would have led to fewer errors. St. John's and Liberty are a
couple of tough teams and I expect that we will rebound tomorrow."
Binghamton takes on host William and Mary at 11:30 a.m. and Elon
at 4:30 in the afternoon on Saturday in the final day of the
William and Mary Tournament. |
