WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Binghamton (4-5) lost its final two matches
on day two of the William and Mary Tournament, first falling
to William and Mary (5-4) 3-0, then 3-2 to Elon (1-7) Friday
at William and Mary Hall. The Bearcats placed fifth.
Against William and Mary, the Bearcats lost 25-30, 28-30, 18-30.
Binghamton was led by junior outside hitter Katie
Brody (Vestal, N.Y.) with a team-high 11 kills and 7 digs.
Sophomore outside hitter Kathleen
Schauer (Littleton, Colo.) had 3 kills and a team-high 12
digs. Junior setter Ashley
Meffert (Louisville, Ky.) contributed with 28 assists and
8 digs. Junior middle blocker Megan
Hoag (Brunswick, Ohio) added 8 kills, 4 digs and 3 blocks,
while freshman libro Jaclyn
Strader (Kettering, Ohio) added 10 digs.
In the second match against Elon, Binghamton fell by scores of
25-30, 18-30, 36-34, 30-13, 11-15. Brody had a team-high 17 kills,
7 digs and 3 blocks, while Strader contributed with a match-high
14 digs. Freshman outside hitter Brianna
Strong (Elkhart, Ind.) had her first collegiate double-double
with 12 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Jacki
Kane (Centennial, Colo.) added 10 kills while hitting .348
and a match-high 7 blocks. Hoag contributed with 11 kills with
a .400 attack percentage, 7 digs and 3 blocks. Meffert added
50 assists, 7 digs and 3 blocks.
"We struggled throughout the tournament," Kiriyama
said. "This is a young team and we are playing like it.
I believe we will do better once we start playing more consistent.
This coming week we need to play better."
Binghamton hosts Colgate on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the West Gym.
On August 27, the Bearcats defeated the Red Raiders 3-0. |
