volleyball splits final matches at the Yale Classic

1 vs. Iona Release
New Haven, Conn. - Binghamton (8-8) split two matches on the
final day of the Courtyard by Marriott Yale Classic on Saturday
at the John J. Lee Amphitheatre. Binghamton defeated Delaware
(4-11) 3-0 by scores of 30-19, 30-14, 30-27 and fell to Yale
(8-1) 3-0 by scores of 19-30, 26-30, 23-30. Junior outside hitter
Katie
Brody (Vestal, N.Y.) and sophomore middle blocker Jacki
Kane (Centennial, Colo.) were named to the All-Tournament
Team. The Bearcats placed second in the tournament.
In the first match against Delaware, the Bearcats were led by
Brody with 17 kills, junior setter Ashley
Meffert (Louisville, Ky.) with 37 assists and 10 digs, junior
middle blocker Megan
Hoag (Brunswick, Ohio) with 5 aces and Kane with 3 blocks.
Kane and Hoag each had 8 kills. Brody contributed with 8 digs.
The Bearcats hit an amazing .354 for the match against the Fightin'
Blue Hens.
"It was a nice all-around effort," head coach Glenn
Kiriyama said. "The team served well the first two games.
In the third match we played well and with a lot of enthusiasm."
Against host Yale, Brody led the Bearcats with 12 kills and 4
blocks, while freshman libro Jaclyn
Strader (Kettering, Ohio) had a team-high 10 digs. Meffert
had a team-high 33 assists. Kane had 9 kills and 3 blocks. Freshman
outside hitter Brianna
Strong (Elkhart, Ind.) contributed with 8 kills and 9 digs.
Hoag had 2 aces and 9 digs.
"We started off slow, then we became more competitive in
the second and third games," Kiriyama said. "Yale just
over powered us. We got our conference schedule coming up next
weekend and this helped us gear up for that."

finishes its non-conference schedule at Cornell on Wednesday
