Binghamton breaks nine-game losing streak with 57-47 win at Albany

ALBANY, N.Y..-- Junior forward Jen Haubrich (Bow, N.H.) netted a career-high and game-high 18 points, leading Binghamton (2-10, 1-2 AE) to a 57-47 win over Albany (6-6, 1-2 AE) in an America East Conference women's basketball game at the RAC Center on Wednesday evening. The victory snapped the Bearcats' nine-game losing streak.

"I'm really excited for the players," head coach Rich Conover said. "They have really worked hard during the past several weeks and to finally get the win gives us a lot of confidence to move on."

Haburich's 18 points eclipsed her previous career-high of 13 points against Brown on Nov. 28. Her seven field goals were also a career high. She scored 10 of her points in the second half.

Also reaching double figures for Binghamton were freshman guard Laura Sario (Espoo, Finland) with 12 points, junior guard Jen Blues (Overland Park, Kan.) with 11 points and a career-high three blocks, and junior forward Rachel Laws (Wyncote, Pa.), who posted her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Binghamton came out smoking in the first half, jumping out to a 32-18 lead at the break. Blues and Sario each connected on three three-point shots and the Bearcats were 11-for-24 from the field. Their largest lead was 31-12 with 5:47 left to go in the half.

Albany wouldn't go quietly and kept chipping away at the lead in the second half. The Great Danes cut the deficit as low as 50-44 on a three pointer by Maree Jones with 1:41 remaining.

Laws, however, saved the day for the Bearcats when she converted a three-point play with 1:06 to go. Blues and Laws then combined to go 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the final minute of the game.

Binghamton returns home to face New Hampshire on Saturday at 1 p.m.
