Binghamton women's basketball suffers 50-49 loss in the final seconds against Albany

VESTAL, N.Y.---Before a season-high crowd of 1,846 Tuesday night in the Events Center, Albany's senior center Danielle Hutcheson hit a jumper with only 12.0 seconds remaining to give the visiting Great Danes (11-9, 6-5 AE) a 50-49 victory over the Bearcats (6-14, 5-6 AE). The heartbreaking loss marks the Bearcats' third consecutive defeat and drops them into sixth place in the America East standings.

In what was a back and forth defensive struggle throughout the night, the Bearcats held the lead late, 49-46, thanks to a three-pointer by sophmore Rebcka Lindgren (Oskarshamn, Sweden) with 1:45 remaining. From that point on, the Bearcats were held scoreless, including a last second attempt by Lindgren that caromed off the rim as time expired.

"For whatever reason we were unable to close this one out," head coach Rich Conover said. "Costly turnovers and mistakes late in the game have cost us over and over again. We need to be able to do a better job closing games out."

Trailing 27-19 at the half, Binghamton began the second half with a 11-2 run capped off by a Jen Blues three-pointer giving the Bearcats a 30-29 lead. The Bearcats, however, struggled shooting the ball throughout the night, only hitting for 29.2 percent in the first half and 30.8 percent for the game.

The Bearcats were led by junior forward Rachel Laws (Wyncote, Pa.) who posted her sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and a team high 10 rebounds. Junior forward Jen Haubrich (Bow, N.H.) led the team in scoring with a team-high 11 points while freshman guard Nicole Lobach ( Hanover, Pa.) contributed 7 points and 7 rebounds in her first career start as a Bearcat.

Binghamton next plays at New Hampshire at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

NOTES: Rachel Laws has now reached double figures in her last seven straight games ... the double-double was her fourteenth of her career
