Coach Rich Conover...
On
tonight's defensive effort:
"The first 20 minutes were absolutely fantastic. [Assistant
coach] Nikki Scholl had a great scouting report and the players
defended their places very well. We lost focus a little in the
second half. Army wasn't doing anything different than in the
first half, but our plays weren't working the way they did in
the first half. As excited as we were about our defense in the
first half, it left something to be desired in the second half.
We talked about at halftime that Army was going to come out and
put some points on the board. We didn't necessarily think it
would be 38 points, but they're too good a team to hold down
for 40 minutes."
On guarding Katie MacFarlane:
"We did a nice job on MacFarlane, particularly in the first
half. She was a big part of their run in the second half and
she did have a double-double, but she wasn't able to dominate
the game at any one point in time, and we were very pleased with
that."
On fending off the Army run in the second half:
"Their full-court pressure and our inability to run some
clock and run our plays let them get back in the game. It kind
of looked like we were the team down by 10 or 12 points."
On the play of Binghamton's post players:
Our players inside did a nice job. With the injury to [Nicole]
Dypolt, they will need to find their roles and be ready to play
increased minutes."
On upcoming game against Albany:
"Albany is a scrappy team and they use a very effective
full-court pressure. We'll have to play ver well to get a win."
Junior forward Leala Wegwerth...
On team mindset with injury to Nicole Dypolt:
"We know that we'll miss Nicole, but we're mostly concerned
with being there to support her and make sure she's handling
everything okay. She's a great leader. It's hard for her, but
she's still up on the bench and supporting us. We know that she'll
have surgery and do her rehab, and she'll be stronger than ever
next year."
"Our post players are doing a great job right now. They
know that there are a lot of points and rebounds that they need
to make up for and I think tonight they showed that they can
do that."
On holding off a second-half rally by Army:
"We used some full-court pressure but they played very intense
and we got a little flustered in the second half. I give Albany
a lot of credit. They worked hard and got back into the game.
We were able to pull through. We had some foul shots late in
the game. You feel the pressure a little bit, but you have to
go up there and just make your shots and not think about it."
On the upcoming game against Albany:
"Every game is so important in conference. We know that
anyone can beat anybody on any given ngiht and we remember from
last year that one game could make a big difference in the standings.
We know it will be a tough game against Albany." |
