MOREHEAD, KY.--Junior guard Kandi Brown scored a game-high 25 points, leading Morehead State (2-0) to a 65-59 win over Binghamton (0-2) in the final round of the Morehead State Tip Off Classic on Saturday night. In the process, the Eagles avenged last season's 71-63 defeat and sent the Binghamton to its first 0-2 start since the 1990-91 season.

The key aspect of the game was shooting percentage. Binghamton shot just 27.9 percent as opposed to Morehead State's 41.4 percent. The Eagles fired 10 three-pointers for the game, including five alone by Brown.

"We took care of the ball much better than we did the yesterday (only 19 turnovers as opposed to 34 against Eastern Kentucky) but we did not shoot well," head coach Laurie Kelly said. "We are a young team and our freshman are doing great but it is going take time for us to gel as a group. We are only going to get better."

The Bearcats were led in scoring by freshman guard Jen Blues (Overland Park, Kan./ Blue Valley North) who netted a career-high 21 points. She hit on four of eight three pointers for the game.

Junior forward Leala Wegwerth (Maplewood, Minn./ Roseville) had 10 points, marking the second straight game she has reached double figures in scoring. Freshman Jen Haubrich (Bow, N.H./ Bow), scored a career-high eight points and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds.

The host Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opening 1:41 of the game, with junior guard Kandi Brown netting all of the points. Binghamton, however, cut the lead to 10-6 with 15:48 remaining in the first half.

Morehead State went on an 8-0 run to take an 18-6 lead with 12:45 left before halftime. The Bearcats responded with an 11-4 run in the ensuing 8:07, trimming the deficit to 22-19 with 4:38 left to go in the first half. Wegwerth had seven points during the stretch, while sophmore forward Molly Miller (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Vincentian) added four points.

In the final second of the first half, the hosts Eagles were nursing a 27-23 lead when Brown heaved a desperation shot at the buzzer. The shot hit nothing but net, as the Eagles went into the break with a seven-point cushion, 30-23.

The Eagles came out flying in the second half, going on a 10-0 run in the first 4:05 to stretch the lead to 40-23. The Bearcats clawed to within 50-42 with 6:00 minutes to go but could draw no closer than the final margin of six points.

Next up for Binghamton is its first home game of the season against Cornell on Wednesday at 7 p.m. It will mark the first of a three game home stand for the Bearcats.

NOTES: Blues finished the tournament with a 14.0 scoring average ... Wegwerth averaged 12.0 points ... Eastern Kentucky finished the weekend 2-0 while West Virginia Wesleyan went 0-2 ... there was no all-tournament team announced.
