Box Score

VESTAL, N.Y.--The Binghamton Bearcats (4-6, 1-0 AE) took control of the game with a 29-4 second-half run and defeated the Stony Brook Seawolves (3-10, 1-1 AE) in a conference tilt Saturday evening at West Gymnasium.

Junior center Nicole Dypolt (Calgary, Alberta) recorded her second career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Jen Blues (Overland Park, Kan.) was the only other Bearcat in double figures, scoring 11 points.

"It was an important win for us, before beginning a tough stretch of games," said BU head coach Laurie Kelly. "Offensively, in the 60's is where we need to be and we did that. Defensively, I thought the freshmen played great today."

After building a 34-27 halftime lead on the strength of 62% (13-of-21) shooting, Binghamton saw its lead evaporate when Stony Brook used a 10-0 run in the opening minutes of the second period to take a 39-36 lead with 17:31 remaining. With the score tied at 41-41, junior guard Kate Townley (St. Paul, Minn.) stole the ball at midcourt and found classmate Leala Wegwerth (Maplewood, Minn.) for a fastbreak layup. That basket gave BU the lead for good with 12:40 remaining and started the decisive run. Freshman forward Jennifer Haubrich (Bow, N.H.) scored all eight of her points during the run.

The Bearcats shot just 35% (12-34) in the second half, but made 10-of-13 free throws and outrebounded Stony Brook over the game's final 13 minutes. Binghamton held a 41-39 rebounding edge for the game. The Seawolves were held to 28% (16-58) shooting for the game and turned the ball over 26 times.

Freshman guard Kelly McManus (Pearl River, N.Y.) led Stony Brook with 11 points to go along with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Sophomore center Bojana Bogetic (Saronno, Italy) had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Binghamton returns to action on the road Wednesday night. The Bearcats will travel to Hartford for a 7 p.m. contest with the Hawks. The next home game is next Saturday at 1 p.m. against Maine.

NOTES: Binghamton's 69 points were the most since February 17, 2002 when the Bearcats defeated Hartford 78-72 ... Dypolt's 16 points were a new career-high, besting her 14-point performance against Texas-Pan American on Jan. 3 ... Freshman Rachel Laws had a career-high six steals for Binghamton, including three on three consecutive possessions in the first half.
