Binghamton rallies for 57-54 win at UMBC

BALTIMORE, MD.--- Freshman guard Nicole Lobach (Hanover, Pa.) and junior guard Jen Haubrich (Bow, N.H.) each netted a game-high 13 points, leading Binghamton (7-15, 6-7 AE) to a 57-54 win over UMBC (7-15, 2-11 AE) in an America East Conference women's basketball game on Wednesday night at the Retriever Athletic Center. The win snapped the Bearcats' four-game losing streak and extended the Retrievers' losing skid to seven games.

"It's a good sign when we are able to go on the road and win a close game that we were down at the half," head coach Rich Conover said. "It's something for us to build on."

UMBC took a 30-27 lead at the half. Binghamton came out and took a brief 31-30 lead with 15:51 left in the second half but the Retrievers responded with an 8-2 run to take a 38-33 advantage with 14:00 remaining.

From there, Binghamton came storming back, going on an 12-0 run to take a 49-43 lead with 6:14 left to go. UMBC, however, refused to go quietly coming back to cut the Bearcat lead to 55-53 with 2:09 remaining.

The key basket of the game came with 54 seconds left on a shot by Lobach that gave the Bearcats a 56-51 cushion. The Retrievers had a chance to tie the game, but were unable to launch a potential game-tying three pointer.

Binghamton returns home for a Sunday noon contest against Stony Brook. The game will be televised locally on Time Warner Sports (Channel 12)
