Binghamton drops 66-50 decision at New Hampshire

DURHAM, N.H.--- Sophomore forward Ray Williams, senior guard Lindsay Adams and junior guard Ebony Woods each had a team-high nine points, leading New Hampshire (11-10, 7-5 AE) to a 66-50 win over Binghamton (6-15, 5-7 AE) in an America East Conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium. The loss was the first time in four contests that the Bearcats have lost on the Wildcats' home floor. It was also Binghamton's fourth straight defeat.

"That was not our best effort," head coach Rich Conover said. "We need to have more positive play for a sustained period of time. We had a good showing for most of the first half but give New Hampshire credit. They took the momentum shortly before the half and kept in the rest of the game."

Junior forward Rachel Laws (Wyncote, Pa.) led the Bearcats with 11 points and 10 rebounds. It marked the eighth consecutive game that she has reached double figures in scoring as well as her second straight double-double.

New Hampshire took a 33-30 halftime lead, having closed out the half on a 10-3 run. The Bearcats shot 45 percent for the field and were 7-of-8 from the free throw line but also committed nine turnovers.

In the second half, the Wildcats jumped out to a 44-36 lead with 14:17 remaining, prompting the Bearcats to call a full time out. From there, New Hampshire extended the lead to 52-40 with 8:55 left to go. The Bearcats never got closer than nine points the rest of the way and the Wildcats closed out the game on a 9-4 run over the last 7:14

Sophomore Rebcka Lindgren (Oskarshamn, Sweden) and freshman center Laine Kurpniece (Riga, Latvia) each added eight points.

Binghamton travels to UMBC on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. games.

NOTES: Laws she now has 903 career points. She ranks 11th all-time in school history . She also 15 career double-doubles, including seven this season.
