Bethlehem,
Pa.--Christine Smith netted a game-high four goals, leading Lehigh
(1-0) to a 16-5 win over Binghamton (0-1) in women's lacrosse
action on Saturday afternoon. The game marked the start of the
Bearcats' fourth season as a Division I program and its first
under new head coach Emily Edmonston.
Smith scored three of her goals during the second half as the
Mountain Hawks went on a 10-2 run. Binghamton trailed by just
6-3 at the half and 7-4 with 26:00 remaining in the second half.
From there, however, Lehigh scored eight unanswered goals to
put the game out of reach.
"I was pleased with our transition game for the first 30
minutes, especially since we've only had two practices outside
this season," Edmonston said. "We tired out in the
second half and didn't have an answer for their transition game."
Senior attack Laura Gabbamonte (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and sophomore
attatck Heather Grose (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) each scored
two goals in the losing effort. The other goal was scored by
freshman Leanne Musso (Auburn, N.Y.).
Senior goalie Christa Quon (Vestal, N.Y.) had 16 saves.
Lehigh outshot Binghamton 40-19 for the game, including 24-5
in the second half.
Binghamton
heads to Syracuse on Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. game. |
