Immediate Release: March 19, 2005 Contact: David O'Brian Phone: 607-777-6478 Women's lacrosse defeated by Le Moyne 14-6 in home opener Box Score BINGHAMTON, N.Y.-- Freshman attack Whitney Vecchio netted a game-high four goals and added two assists, leading Le Moyne (1-2) to a convincing 14-6 win over Binghamton (1-3) in a women's lacrosse non-conference game on Saturday. The game was schedule to start at 1 p.m. on the East Gym Field but was moved to Binghamton Alumni Stadium at 3 p.m. due to poor field conditions. The visiting Dophins set the tone midway through the first half by breaking a 1-1 deadlock with four unanswered goals in a span of 10:16. Vecchio had a goal and an assist during that run. Leading 5-1 at the half, Le Moyne scored eight of the first 10 goals in the second half and were up 13-3 with 6:19 remaining in the contest. The Bearcats tallied three of the final four goals but the issue had long been decided. "The difference today was shot selection," Binghamton head coach Emily Edmonston said. "Le Moyne's shots were more high percentage and they were able to capitalize on them. We've improved this week but they are a good team. They nearly beat (No. 13) James Madison last week (losing 14-11) so we knew today would be a tough game." Also recorded multiple-goal games for the Dolphins were freshman attack Kylie Rosette (three goals) and sophomore defender Kristen Malecki (two goals). Sophomore attack Danielle Edwards (Horseheads, N.Y.) led Binghamton with two goals. Junior midfielder Lauren Wetherell (Bethpage, N.Y.) added a goal and an assist. PLEASE NOTE: Binghamton's game on Monday at St. Francis has been postponed due to poor field conditions. No make up date has been set. |
