Immediate Release: April 1, 2005 Contact: David O'Brian Phone: 607-777-6478 Binghamton women's lacrosse comes up short at Stony Brook 14-13 Box Score STONY BROOK, N.Y.-- Despite a season-high four goals by sophomore attack Danielle Edwards (Horseheads, N.Y.), Binghamton (1-5, 0-1 AE) lost a 14-13 heartbreaker at Stony Brook (5-3, 1-0 AE) in an America East Conference women's lacrosse game on Friday evening. With the setback, the Bearcats have now lost their last two games to Stony Brook by a combined total of three goals. Sophomore midfielder Anna Riordan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) , freshman midfielder Leanne Musso (Auburn, N.Y.). and junior attack Allison Lak (Nassau, N.Y.) each netted a pair of goals. Stony Brook got a team high three goals from Diana Caroleo and Amy Taylor as well as a game-high six assists from Carlee Buck. Both teams came out smoking in the first half as Stony Brook took a 9-8 lead at the break. The Seawolves went up 4-0 in the opening 9:46 as Taylor scored two of her goals during that run. Binghamton responded with five straight goals in a span of 4:18 to claim a 5-4 advantage. Edwards had two of her goals during that span. In the last 12:56 of the first half, however, Stony Brook regrouped and outscored the Bearcats 5-3. Things slowed down in the second half until Edwards tied the game at 9-9 on a free position shot with 20:37 left to go. From that point on, the two teams went back and fourth and the score was tied again at 12-12 approaching the two-minute mark in the game. At that point, however, Stony Brook scored twice in a span of 20 seconds to take the lead for good. Buck scored an unassisted goal with 2:07 remaining and Danielle Werner followed up by converting a free position shot at the 1:47 mark. Musso got Binghamton to within 14-13 with 54 seconds remaining but time would run out shortly afterwards. Binghamton was outshot 31-23 but senior goalie Christa Quon (Vestal, N.Y.) made 13 saves. The Bearcats return home to face Niagara on Tuesday at 4 p.m. |
