Immediate Release: February 11, 2006 EDINBORO, Pa. - Freshman 133-pound Errick Cholewa (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) placed sixth to lead a solid showing from Binghamton wrestling at the non-scoring Edinboro Open. Cholewa won three matches, including a 14-4 major decision over Ohio State's Anthony Rienzi in the consolation second round, to place sixth at 133 pounds. He also scored decisions over wrestlers from Penn State and Central Michigan before losing the fifth-place match, 4-2, to Jason Whitman of Central Michigan. Freshman Chris Wade (Islip, N.Y.) also won three matches at 157 pounds. He advanced to the quarterfinals with a pin and overtime decision before narrowly losing a 10-8 decision to the eventual champion, Mark Smith of East Stroudsburg. Freshman 125-pound Steve Gurien (North Bellmore, N.Y.) won two matches, including one by fall. He pinned Jim Bodkin of Lock Haven in 52 seconds in the consolation second round. The Bearcats return home to host Franklin & Marshall on February 18 at the West Gym. |
