BU athlete named conference wrestler of the week
Privitere earns honor in Division I East Coast Wrestling Association

For Immediate Release: February 1, 2000

Binghamton University wrestler Joe Privitere (Johnson City/Johnson City) has earned Wrestler of the Week honors from the Division I East Coast Wrestling Association, the school learned Tuesday.

Privitere, a sophomore 149-pounder, went 3-0 on the week, and posted an upset 3-2 decision over the top-ranked wrestler in the nine-school conference. At the Wagner College Duals on Sunday, Privitere moved up a weight class and defeated Hofstra’s Dennis Papadatos, who was “receiving votes” nationally, and was coming off his second consecutive New York State Championship. Privitere, 26-7 overall and 8-4 in duals, also posted a 16-4 major decision over his opponent from Seton Hall. He is 4-1 against opponents from the ECWA — Binghamton’s new Division I conference.

“This is probably the best Joe has wrestled in two years,” coach Mike Fusilli said. “He is hitting stride right now.”

The Bearcats (4-10-1) conclude their season with a pair of dual matches this Saturday at Ithaca. Binghamton will face the Bombers as well as Division II American International College.
