In the process, Ruff becomes the first Binghamton wrestler to win a title at the CAA Championships and will advance to the NCAA Championships (which will be held in St. Louis in two weeks) for the second year in a row. Ruff defeated second-seeded Joey Rivera in the semifinals 7-2 and followed up with a 5-3 win over John Menardi of Hofstra in the finals. Before heading into the semifinals, Ruff had gone 1-1 all-time against Rivera. "Josh had a great tournament," head coach Mike Fusilli said. "He was very aggressive the whole weekend and his match against Rivera was definitely his best one." Binghamton's other place winner during the tournament was senior Beau Bruno (Minneola, N.Y./ Minneola), who placed fourth in the 149 weight class. Binghamton finished eighth out of 11 competing teams. |
