WRESTLING The Binghamton University wrestling team has received two more national letter of intents from student-athletes who will join the Bearcats next fall. Derman Lewis (Schenectady, N.Y.) is from Schalmont High School. He wrestled at the 184 weight class in high school. Lewis was a double champ in the NY/USA Wrestling State Championships, winning both the freestyle and Greco-Roman events. He was also a New York State, Section Two place-winner. "Derman's ability has yet to scratch its surface, head coach Mike Fusilli said. With the workout partners Derman will have, he will develop in leaps and bounds. I am excited to be able to watch Derman grow with our program. He has already proven his development skills by winning the double title at the freestyle and Greco-Roman state tournament." Michael Walden (Galesburg, Mich.) is currently a freshman at Muskegon Community College (MCC), having graduated from Galesburg-Augusta High School in 2001. He wrestles at the 197 weight class. At Galesburg, he placed fourth in the state in both his sophomore and junior years and was the state runner-up as a senior. As a freshman at MCC, Walden placed fifth in the junior college nationals (he lost to the champion 5-2 in the semifinals) "Mike Walden is an excellent addition to our program, Fusilli said. He brings a year of college experience to the table and will have an impact in our upper weights immediately. Mike is still developing and will fit in nicely with the growth of our program." |
