Heading into the game, the visiting Hawks were 49-2 in regular season conference games since 1997, losing only twice to Boston. Hartford has qualified for the NCAA Tournament in each of the last five years. "Our team has a lot of heart and it showed today," head coach Jeff Leightman said. "We stuck to our game plan, which was to be dangerous on the counter attack. We came in believing we could win and this game puts us back in position to qualify for the conference tournament." With the game scoreless in the second half, Norman dribbled the ball toward the goal and drew Hartford goalie Heather Hinton out of the box. She then fired a cross to Moore who one-timed it into the net at the 56:28 mark. "It was a brilliant goal," Leightman said. "Amanda drew the goal out and Emily timed it great. It could not have been a more perfect goal." Hartford outshot Binghamton for the game, including by an 1-1 margin in the scoreless first half. Still, senior goalie Lauren Cherry (Wyncote, Pa./ Cheltenham) made eight saves en route to earning her fourth shutout of the season. Binghamton returns to action on Sunday for their home finale against Northeastern at noon. |
