Immediate Release: October 22, 2004 Mathelier dribbled through the Hawks defense and deposited her sixth goal of the season at the 50:44 mark, knotting the game at 1-1. Then shortly after the ensuing kickoff, senior midfielder Deli Plourde (Clifton Park, N.Y.) gained control and fed Mathelier, who beat the keeper to the upper right corner for her fifth career game-winner. The assist was Plourde's fifth of the season. Binghamton outshot Hartford 7-2 in the decisive second half and 13-9 for the game. "I thought we played very well in the second half," head coach Jeff Leightman said. "We combined a lot better and played as a team instead of individually. We'll take the three points because we needed them. If we get three more points on Sunday (at Vermont) we should guarantee a spot in the conference tournament. It was a positive performance, especially since we were missing three starters." Sophomore
Kristy
Doerner (Shoreham, N.Y.) made two saves in her first start
of the season. Doerner started in place of classmate Kristie
Bowers, who injured her ankle prior to the game. Binghamton also
was without leading scorer Kim Povill. NOTE: |
