Immediate Release: November 4, 2004 VESTAL, N.Y.--Binghamton women's soccer player Katie Kerrigan (Middletown, N.Y.) has received national honors courtesy of SoccerBuzz magazine. The first-year defender was named to the Elite Team of the Week for outstanding play during the week of October 25-Nov. 1. Kerrigan and her Bearcats teammates won twice during the week to clinch a share of the program's first America East regular-season title. With the victories over Boston University and Northeastern, BU also secured the No. 1 seed and host role for the conference tournament, which continues Friday and Sunday on campus. In addition to playing strong defense on the right side, Kerrigan scored the game-winning goal against Northeastern - drilling a 45-yard shot into the net in the 77th minute. It was her second goal of the season. The Bearcats open the postseason with a semifinal game against Northeastern, at 11 a.m. on Friday. Second-seeded Maine will oppose No. 3 New Hampshire in the 1:30 semifinal. |
