Women's soccer team defeats Stony Brook 1-0 Box Score VESTAL, N.Y.--- Junior defender Tatiana Mathelier (Pomona, N.Y./ Saddle River Day) scored with 45 seconds left in the first half, leading Binghamton (7-5-2, 1-2-1 AE) to a 1-0 win over Stony Brook (5-6-1, 1-2 AE) in an America East Conference women's soccer game on Saturday at West Gym Field. The win marked the second straight game that the Bearcat defense has held its opponent scoreless. "We are pleased with the result," head coach Jeff Leightman said. "It was nice to get that goal right at the end of the half because we have let in some goals this season with time running out. Defensively, we've been playing very solid the last two games." With time running down in the first half, sophomore midfielder Kelly Sanders (Ramsey, N.J./ Ramsey) seized the ball near midfield and fired the ball to Mathelier, who was stationed inside the box. She then took the fast break pass and fired it in the net to give the Bearcats the only goal they would need. Freshman keeper Kristie Bowers (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Olympia) made six saves for the Bearcats and recorded her fifth solo shutout of the season. For the game, Binghamton outshot Stony Brook 12-10. Binghamton hosts Maine on Thursday at 2 p.m.
