Women's
tennis team heads to America East Conference Tournament as No.
2 seed "We
are all charged up and ready to go this weekend," head coach
Jamie Campbell said. "We have got to take it one match at
a time but our goal is to win the conference." "Ever since we beat James Madison over the spring break (March 11), we have been playing very well," Campbell said. "Winning a tight match like that (4-3) did a lot for our confidence." Binghamton
is led by freshman Justina Hakimi (Manhasset, N.Y./ Herricks)
who has an 11-5 record at first singles this season. She
has won 11 consecutive matches. At second singles, Janine
Sadaka (Great Neck, N.Y.) also is 11-5 this season and has
won 10 out of her past 11 matches. Senior Amy Weissberg (Syosset,
N.Y.) is 10-9 at third singles but has won seven out of her
last eight matches, including a dramatic, come-form-behind, three-set
win to seal the Bearcats' 4-2 win over Stony Brook on April 11.
"The
doubles point is going to be important," Campbell said.
"We have very good singles players who attack the net but
we don't do that as much in doubles matches. The doubles game
is much different from the singles game." |
